Please read this information before hitting the trails!
Choose any 10 of these trails to complete the challenge; 13 of the trails are wheelchair accessible. Vermont’s Trail Accessibility Hub is a group of organizations and trail users who are working together to address the challenges people face when seeking to build or use accessible trails in Vermont. As part of this work, Trail Finder is adding more information to the wheelchair accessible trail listings (e.g., surface, width, slope, trailhead access). They are in the process of doing this now. We will update this list as more trails become accessible. Check out the Trail Accessibility Hub website to learn more about this awesome initiative.
Please keep your dog on a leash and pick up your poop!
Safety first! Please review the Safety page of this website before hitting the trails. The VT Dog Hiking Challenge is not responsible for any injuries that you or your dog sustain while hiking. Please also check ahead to make sure the trail is open as sometimes trails close due to weather or nature-related events; Trail Finder is also a great source for this information. Please avoid muddy natural surface trails during mud season, until Memorial Day. Lower elevation durable surface trails like rec paths and rail trails are okay.
Trails are organized by county. It’s up to you to decide how far you want to go if there is no pre-determined length (rail trail, rec path, trail network). If trails are associated with a state park there may be a fee. Lastly, have fun, and send in pictures from your adventures! You can email your pictures and reviews to vtdoghikingchallenge@gmail.com or put them on Facebook or Instagram.
